Domestic Flights
Anatolian Adventures uses Turkish Airlines earliest morning direct flight from Istanbul to Van. This guarantees us to be earlier in the region to benefit the day light more and to get organized for the next days’ programs. In wintertime the early direct flights schedule generally changes. Please ask us the flight you should book, if you are not booking your flights with us.
Van Hotels

Anatolian Adventures is booking the rooms from a 3* hotel in Van. The hotel is licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of Turkey. All rooms have TV, telephone, shower and WC. Hotel offers dining facility in its restaurant.

Food

Food will be of the highest standard possible, given the remoteness of the location. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirements. All meals while on trek are included in the trip price. The trek includes three basic meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, each day.

Leaders & Mountain Guides

All Anatolian Adventures professional guides have at least university degree speaking English. All of the guides, young or experienced more than 25 years, have extensive knowledge about trekking, climbing, safety equipments, first aid and navigation.

Equipment List
You can download a detailed equipment list from here. You can rent some personal equipment items from Anatolian Adventures as well. If you wish to rent something please inform us beforehand so we can estimate the availability. Before the trek, your guide will check your equipments and help you with choosing and hiring the right equipment.
Travel Insurance
All Anatolian Adventures guests are being insured with the TURSAB travel insurance package. Being the member of TURSAB (Turkish Travel Agencies Association), Anatolian Adventures guides or the main office may keep your insurance until the end of tours.

ARTOS - SUPHAN - ARARAT SKI TOURING 9-DAYS

ITINERARY

Day 1: After welcome at VAN city airport in Eastern Turkey, we visit Van castle and taste the best examples of Turkish Kebabs in the lunch. After check-in our hotel in the city, we visit Akdamar Island after a short boat cruise. Seeing the ancient 10th century Armenian Church called Cathedral Church of the Holy Cross is a rewarding experience. The church was built by Bishop Manuel under King Gagik I, between AD 915-921. Dinner and overnight in Van.

Day 2: Drive to Artos mountain for daily ski touring. Drive to Ahlat and overnight in hotel in Ahlat. Artos mountain elevation gain 1550m.

Day 3: Continue to Suphan mountain for daily ski touring. 5-6 hours ascent to the summit, ski downhill from 4000m. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Ahlat. Suphan mountain elevation gain 2000m.

Day 4: After breakfast in hotel, we drive to Dogubeyazit town in 3 hours average. On the way we stop by the "Muradiye waterfalls" and enjoy the view with Turkish tea. After lunch, check in hotel, permits and gear check. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 5: Transfer to Mount Ararat, former Eli village region at 2200m / 7250 ft. We then load the duffle bags on our horses and the start trekking for 4 hrs before arriving "Green Camp" at 3300m / 10850 ft.

Day 6: Hike up from Green camp to 2nd camp at 4150m / 13615 ft. (2-3 hours)

Day 7: Summit day. Early wake up call at 3:30 and start for the summit bid at 4:30 after a fine breakfast. We reach the summit at 5137 m / 16854 ft after 5-6 hrs hiking performance. It will take 2-3 hours to descend back to the camp site at 4150m / 13615 ft. Dinner and overnight in the 2nd camp.

Day 8: Descend all the way down to the village road to reach the minibus for the transfer to hotel in Dogubeyazit before lunch time. After lunch, we will see the art demonstration of the very best examples of local handcrafts and carpets. We will visit ancient Ishak Pasha Palace during the beautiful sunset. / Spare day in case of bad weather / Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 9: Transfer to Van airport early in the morning for the flights or continue with extension tours.

DETAILS

The last day in Eastern Turkey we will drive back to Van city Airport for the end of services or continue with extension Turkey tours.
